Prevention at Touchstone

Building Healthier Futures

At Touchstone, our Prevention Department plays a vital role in promoting wellness and resilience across our communities. Rooted in the principles of public and behavioral health, prevention focuses on proactive strategies that reduce risk factors, strengthen protective factors, and support long-term well-being—before challenges arise.

Funded through state and federal grants, our prevention programs allow us to make a meaningful impact by providing education, resources, and community-based initiatives that empower youth, families, schools, and neighborhoods. These efforts are essential in addressing behavioral health needs early, reducing stigma, and fostering environments where individuals can thrive.

Together, we’re creating a healthier, more resilient future—one community at a time.

CARE Coalition

The Community Alliance for Resources and Education (CARE) Coalition unites, informs, and empowers the community to positively impact youth through collaborative planning and action. We aim to create a more resilient community through optimal adolescent health. The CARE Coalition, led by Touchstone Health Services, is a community-driven initiative focused on promoting adolescent health and well-being across the West Valley. The coalition brings together diverse stakeholders in quarterly meetings—including schools, healthcare providers, youth-serving organizations, local governments, and community leaders—to collaboratively address the root causes of youth risk behaviors. The CARE Coalition plays a vital role in supporting two of Touchstone’s key prevention programs: the CARE Grant and Building Resilient Futures Grant. By aligning community resources, sharing best practices, and fostering cross-sector collaboration, the coalition enhances the reach and impact of these evidence-based programs. Together, they work to build protective factors, empower youth, and create safer, healthier communities. If you are interested in attending please check out our website at carecoalitionaz.org.

CARE Grant

In 2023, Touchstone Health Services was awarded a five-year CARE Grant through the Office of Population Affairs, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. This initiative is designed to improve adolescent health outcomes by replicating evidence-based programs (EBPs) and services across 17 targeted zip codes, encompassing the cities of Avondale, Tolleson, Goodyear, Litchfield Park, and parts of Glendale, Buckeye, and Phoenix. Through this grant, Touchstone will collaborate with a wide network of community partners—including schools, caregivers, youth-serving agencies, foster care systems, after-school programs, local governments, and faith-based organizations—to deliver a comprehensive, community-driven approach to youth well-being.

Touchstone is offering two evidence based youth programs:

Building Resilient Futures Grant

Touchstone Health Services is proud to be the recipient of a three-year grant funded by the Governor’s Office of Youth, Faith and Family through Arizona’s Parent Commission. This initiative is focused on preventing and addressing early signs of youth substance use through a comprehensive, community-based approach.

Key components of the program include:

  • Implementation of Evidence-Based Programs: Touchstone delivers Botvin’s LifeSkills Training for youth, along with Active Parenting of Teens and Botvin’s LifeSkills for Parents to strengthen family engagement and communication.

  • Professional and Community Trainings: Ongoing development opportunities for professionals and community members to enhance knowledge and skills in prevention and early intervention.

  • Youth Leadership Council: A platform for youth to lead and contribute to a public awareness campaign, promoting healthy choices and peer-led prevention efforts.

  • Community Initiatives: Collaborative efforts with local partners to build supportive environments that reduce risk factors and promote protective factors for youth.

This grant supports Touchstone’s mission to empower youth and families, reduce substance use, and build healthier community in the west valley.
