Independent Living Skills: Behavior Support Specialists provide direct support to teach age appropriate independent living skills and target problem behavior to replace with appropriate alternative behaviors utilizing the principles and techniques of Applied Behavior Analysis. Caregiver training is a major component of this service prior to discharge. Independent Living Skills has an average length of stay of 6-months, dependent on the level of intensity required, at a minimum of 6 hours a week.
Parent Education: Behavior Support Specialists provide information and parent education to a family with a newly diagnosed child with autism, or a family with limited knowledge of autism. This average length of stay 3-month service guides a family through the diagnosis, what to expect, how to work and play with their child, information on how to reduce and replace problem behaviors, promote language acquisition, and encourage independent skills.
